Great Scottish Run Challenge

Members of Bellahouston Harriers took part in an unique challenge to improve their running abilities when they undertook a body composition analysis to measure there current fitness levels with the aim of improving their running over the next few weeks leading up to and beyond the Glasgow Half Marathon and 10 km.

The idea was to measure each individuals present fitness levels and then repeat the tests every 4 weeks to record changes in their metabolism. Variations in the body fluctuate through out the day and it was decided that the tests would be carried out at 8 PM in the evening to accommodate members .

The measurements included  current weight, Body-Fat percentage as proportion of body weight,Body water percentage expressed as a percentage of total body weight,Basal Metabolic Rate was tested and indicated the number of calories required by each individual on a daily basis when at rest, also expressed was the average age associated with each individuals metabolism. Muscle Mass was measured and indicated the amount of muscle each person has in their body,a physique rating was also given 1 being obese and 9 being thin and muscular.

These tests will be followed up over the next few weeks and results with members permission will be posted.Below are the first results (male):
